Bishop Quilt Show

While we were in Bishop for Mule Days, we had some free time and had seen a Quilt Show advertised all over town so we (I) decided to check it out.  David's knee was bothering him so he waited in the car which is not unusual.

There were many pretty quilts, a scavenger hunt, raffle and snacks as well as a sales table.  These are some of the quilts I liked.

I'm thinking of making some for Janice's boutique in November, but it might also be an idea for others to use.  I talked to the lady who made them and they're very simple.  She also gave me permission to share the idea.

The only thing I worked on this week was my Mania stitching and as you can see above I completed the start of all 25 squares.  It now looks like this:

I enjoyed participating this year and will participate again next year if I can find something suitable.  In fact I already have a couple of ideas.

WIP Wednesday - 5/16/2018

I was kind of in a stitching slump this week.  I only stitched five of the seven days and only on one project instead of my usual two.

Dream Big is now a blank piece of Aida.  I was very close to running out of two colors of floss and could not find a conversion for Artiste floss anywhere so I compared the floss to my DMC Color Chart and decided you'd be able to tell the difference.  Since this is for a quilt for WOCS, I decided just to start over.  I've pulled the floss and cut a new square of Aida, but that's as far as I've gotten.

The days I did stitch were spent on my Maynia starts.  I didn't stitch Friday or Saturday nights because I wasn't home, but I'll still be able to start all 25 animals, although I may have to double up one day.

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope all of the mothers out there had a good Mother's Day with time to do what you enjoy!

My Mother's Day was definitely a good one.  It started with church in the morning which meant I got to spend a little time with Kyleigh.

In the afternoon, we went to the Ronald McDonald House to bake cupcakes.  This hadn't been planned, but when I was there on Friday, I found out that the bakers signed up for today had cancelled because they belatedly realized that it was Mother's Day.  I called Janice and she agreed to bake this afternoon.

We made 72 cupcakes (a few didn't make it to the display!): 24 red velvet with cream cheese frosting; 24 chocolate with chocolate frosting and 24 golden butter (yellow) with strawberry frosting.  We all worked and had fun together.  Kyleigh discovered the televisions while the cupcakes were baking and decided to desert us, but she didn't go too far since there was a TV in the dining area.  We've decided to sign up again next year since it was a great way to spend time together.

 

My evening ended with a steak dinner at one of our favorite restaurants.  We were really surprised that it wasn't very crowded, but maybe the crowd was there for lunch instead of dinner.

GIrl Scout Night at Angel Stadium

Last night was Girl Scout Night at the stadium and Janice and Kyleigh and her Girl Scout Troop along with about 1800 other Girl Scouts got to march around the warning track before the game.    The fortunate thing was they left by the tunnel directly under our seats.

After they finished marching, they came up to the stands to join us.  They were only the fourth group of girls so there were still girls coming into the stadium when they got to our seats.  There were three empty seats in the first row so we let the girls take them over.  This is how they watched most of the game:

We were seated next to the bullpens and I wasn't really crazy about the seats.  It was really hard to get into the game and the fireworks went off behind the big scoreboard behind us, so we didn't stay for the fireworks.

WIP Wednesday - 5/9/2018 (Mostly Maynia)

I did quite a bit of stitching this week, most of it on my Maynia projects.  Before I show you those, here is the only other project I stitched on this week other than finishing the Spring 2018 and Let's Hug a Teacher.

This is Dream Big, an Artiste kit which I'm doing for an Inspirational SAL with WOCS.  I've only stitched on it for a couple of nights and this is the center of the flower.  Unfortunately, the colors are way off.  The center is supposed to be a light yellow although the border is orange.

You might notice the square above looks more square than it should.  That's because it's two stitches short.  Fitzwilliam Frog was the same way, but I didn't notice it until I'd done this one.

Below is the whole thing so far.  It's kind of wrinkled and the lighting wasn't very good, but you can at least see what I've accomplished so far.  I have no idea why I put it away, but I'm glad I found a reason to bring it out again.

April Recap

In April, I worked on 10 projects, had six starts, four finishes and abandoned one.  I managed to stitch every day except the 28th.  That means I've stitched all but two days in 2018.  To date I have 17 finishes.

One of the starts was quickly abandoned because of the number of 1/4 stitches, but the other start was here at the end of the month.

Because I was trying to finish Let's Hug a Teacher by the first of May and rotated to it every other week, I didn't get a chance to work on Tinkerbell Spring Blossoms.  It will be the first piece in the rotation when I start rotating in June.

As far as my year of accomplishments goes, I've started making progress again, decluttering several drawers in the kitchen and doing some deep cleaning in the bathroom and master bedroom.  I also got quite a bit of financial stuff done and have gotten into a routine where I take care of the mail, logging receipts and shredding unwanted paper on a daily basis so it was a good month.
