WIWO - 2/29/2016

Last week, I stitched exclusively on the Disney Princess Clock from Clouds Factory.  It's turning out to be a fairly quick and easy stitch except for the white confetti stitches and Mulan's flower, both of which need some fixing.  There's also a mistake in the upper tower, but I haven't decided whether to leave it or fix it yet.

Here's where it was last time:
And here's where I left off yesterday evening:

Serving...

Wednesday evenings during Lent, our church has a soup supper before the church service.  Tonight the meal was served by the second grade Cub Scouts and Brownies.  The second graders also sang during the service.  I "stole" this picture from our church's Facebook page.

WIWO - 2/22/2016

It was a really good stitchy week this time.  In addition to the two finishes posted below, I also had two mini-finishes and one start.

My first mini-finish was Paris which is the February part of the Pumpkin Passport.  It's being stitched on an old piece of 28-count Jobelan, but I don't know the color name or who dyed it.  The only change I made was accidental.  In January, I accidentally stitched the top scalloped border in the same color as the bottom border, but it was supposed to be done in a light pink.  I discovered the mistake when I looked at other stitchers' work, but decided I liked it this way so didn't frog it.
Started: 2/17/16
Finished: 2/18/16
Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery

My second mini-finish is February's postcard.  It's also Paris this time.  It's being stitched on 16-count Aida in Haven from Picture this Plus.  I did make a few changes on this one.  I've changed the borders from white to blue (797) and added my initial to the cafe sign, changed the top of the Eiffel Tower, used two strands of black for the backstitching on the sign post, lamp pole and table and chairs to make them stand out more.  The backstitching around the lamp itself and the post mark is in one strand.  I also changed the stamp from 797 to 3760 because I didn't think the backstitching would show up on the darker color.
Started: 2/18/16
Finished: 2/21/16
Clouds Factory (Postcards from the World)

Finally, my start was enabled by a post on the Stitch Maynia Facebook page.  One of the members posted her started of Clouds Factory's Disney Princess Clock so  I looked up the pattern Disney Princess Clock.

Since I have a princess loving granddaughter with a birthday coming up in March, I decided to stitch it for her.  I'm doing this on 25-count Lugana in Blue Diamonds from Silkweaver (2 over 2) that I found in my stash.  I started with the castle and so far has been an enjoyable stitch.

It's Cookie Time

Kyleigh is a Brownie and her troop is currently selling Girl Scout cookies.  They had their second booth sale this morning and sold 55 boxes in front of a grocery store.  Since I'm one of the cookie mom's, I'm attending all of the booth sales.  We took this picture during a short period of inactivity.

Kyleigh is the one in the middle on the left.

Happy Dance - Snowman in Jar

Started: 2/15/2016
Finished: 2/17/2016
Cross Stitcher Magazine #297

This was stitched on Dwarf 18-count Aida from Picture This Plus with one strand using the called for DMC.

The original design by Durene Jones is below:
Instead of stitching the background, I stitched it on Dwarf 18-count Aida from Picture This Plus with one strand of the called for DMC for the rest. I also eliminated the jar and just stitched the design.

This is my February ornament for the 2016 Christmas Ornie SAL.  The theme this month is Snow.

Happy Dance - Snowman with Guitar

Started: 2/11/2016
Finished: 2/15/2016
Cross Stitch Christmas Favorites
This was stitched on Dwarf 18-count Aida from Picture This Plus with one strand using the called for DMC.  There are a few modifications to the backstitching, but otherwise, it's stitched as charted.

This is one of a series of snowmen playing musical instruments.  I chose this one because my granddaughter received a small guitar for Christmas and this is for her.

She was here tonight and wanted to know why it said 2015 when I didn't stitch it until 2016 and I told her that it was her 2015 ornament because she hadn't gotten one yet.  BTW, she approved my choice and thought it was a great idea to be able to look at the ornament in future years and remember the guitar.

WIWO - 2/15/2016

This week I had two finishes which you can read about in the posts below.  Once I had finished with them, I started this snowman with a guitar.  It's being stitched on 18-count Dwarf Aida from Picture This Plus.

Happy Dance - Peter Polar Bear

Started: 2/9/2016
Finished: 2/11/2016
Brooke's Books - Advent Animals

This is my February square for the Brooke's Books SAL on the Stitch Maynia Facebook group.  This is an annual SAL where you stitch  any Brooke's Books chart including any of her freebies each month.

The chart was stitched on 14-count Lt. Blue Aida with the called for DMC floss.  The only real changes I made were to do the border in two strands of floss and much of the backstitching became straight stitches.

While I originally planned to stitch these on one piece of Aida, I've decided to stitch them individually, finish them as little pillows and display them in a basket.

Happy Dance - Pretty as a Posy

Started: 1/25/2016
Finished: 2/9/2016
Strawberry Shortcake for Berry Sweet Girls

This is my sixth finish of the year, not including the two squares for my annual SALs.

It was stitched on 14-count white Aida with the called for DMC, but there are a number of unplanned customizations.

It is going to Q4OC for the 2016 Challenge and will eventually end up on a quilt from Love Quilts Brazil.

WIWO - 2/8/2016

This week, I worked exclusively on the Strawberry Shortcake square for Quilts for Older Children and Adults.  And I almost finished it!

I just have the rest of her bow and some of the backstitching left to do.

California Adventure Fun

Kyleigh called about 11:00 this morning and wanted to know if I'd go to Disneyland with her and Janice.  After some major indecision, I decided to go with them.  The parking lot was the most crowded I've ever seen it.

We decided to start with lunch so went into California Adventure planning to go to Disneyland after lunch.  We never did make it to Disneyland.  Instead we viewed a Sneak Peek of Zootopia, which is a really cute animated movie.  This is also where we got the Fox and Rabbit ears.

Then we went to Bug's Land.  Since Kyleigh is now old enough to ride by herself, she wanted to take advantage of that.  First she went on the Bumper Cars:
Then on the ladybug ride (similar to the teacups at Disneyland):
But decided that Mommy needed to go with her on the Flying Boxes ride

and the Jellyfish ride.

We also discovered why the park was so crowded--there was a celebration for the Lunar New Year.  Kyleigh was able to make a lantern (no picture) and we all got to watch a procession and celebration starring Mulan.  It was really cool to be able to see two things that aren't normally at Disneyland.

A Gift and a Mailbox

I went out to lunch with a friend from Shared Crosses earlier this week and she brought me two presents.  Thank you Pat!  The first was a pair of wrist warmers:
The second was a capelet that she'd made for an adult, but it turned out to be too small so she thought Kyleigh might like it for playing dress-up.  I gave it to her at breakfast this morning.  As you can tell, she definitely likes it!

After breakfast, we went to the free Home Depot kid's build.  Today's project was a Valentine Mailbox.  First, you have to put it together:
Then you have to paint it.  Even though Kyleigh's no longer into pink or purple, she decided that since it was a Valentine's box, they were okay.  She mixed both the colors herself.
Finally, you need to show off your completed work.
Home Depot does these free kid's builds on the first Saturday of the month.  They give you the apron as well as a pin each time you complete a build.  Next month will be a wagon and Kyleigh's already looking forward to it.

WIWO - 2/1/2016

This week I'm not stitching on a SAL piece as amazing as that might seem.  I've finished the pieces for all my January SALs so I've spent the week stitching on a charity square except for the couple of days when I stitched a square for Kyleigh's quilt. (See Happy Dance below.)

This is Pretty as a Posy from Strawberry Shortcake for Berry Sweet Girls.

It's being stitched on 14-count white Aida with the called for DMC.  There are a ridiculous number of 1/4 stitches and an enormous amount of backstitching in this piece, but I'm happy with my progress.  I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the week.

It will go to Quilts for Older Children and Adults for Love Quilts Brazil and is part of the 2016 Stitcher's Challenge.
