June Activities/Pictures

There wasn't a lot happening in June since school was out and summer activities were either cancelled or hadn't started yet.

One of Devin’s scripts was picked by Coverfly, a website that helps screenwriters, to be performed as table read during a Zoom meeting.  The script was Orson's War, a behind the scenes look at the making of War of the Worlds.  Sean Astin played Orson Welles and all the comments were positive.

Kyleigh died her hair again, this time with maroon.  She does it every summer with Janice's permission, but usually does blue.  The maroon definitely shows up better.

I did a lot of cleaning and decluttering in my office/craft room this month and put a basket for filing back on my desk.  Even though it's not really big enough for him, Taz has taken up residence in it.  He spends quite a bit of time there when I'm using the computer and is there right now.  I guess it's a case of "If I fits, I sits".

I also cleaned off the Cat Tree in the living room and after David put him in the tree a couple of times, he now spends part of most evenings there (instead of on our bed).  He even uses the steps to get up and down.

Happy Birthday to Me

January 6th was my 70th birthday.  My husband took me to breakfast at a favorite restaurant and then we met Devin, Janice and Kyleigh for dinner at Olive Garden.

Kyleigh handed me a balloon filled with helium that said "Happy Birthday" on it, so the restaurant knew we were celebrating a birthday; they just didn't know we were celebrating two (both mine and Devin's).

They brought us each a dessert and sang "Happy Birthday".  I'd forgotten my phone so I asked Janice to take a picture of it.

After the picture was taken, Janice had Devin and I switch desserts, since this was raspberry cheesecake and his was chocolate mousse.  She knew I'd prefer the chocolate!  BTW, Kyleigh ate the Happy Birthday.

I didn't receive anything stitching related for Christmas, but I did get two gift cards for my birthday.  One was from Jo Ann's and the other from 123Stitch so I see shopping in my future.

Happy Birthday, Devin!

Today is my son-in-law's birthday.  Since Janice and Kyleigh are out of town, we will be celebrating our birthdays together on Monday this year.  We usually do celebrate them together and choose a mutually agreeable restaurant, but this year since we're celebrating on my 70th birthday, he's letting me choose.

Last year for his 40th birthday, he chose to go to Johnny Reb's, a southern style restaurant where you shell peanuts and throw the shells on the floor.  Sadly, they've closed the one near us.  They had a tradition/ceremony for those celebrating a birthday there. 

First, you have to kiss a metal pig, but you have a choice as to whether you kiss his nose or his ass.  Kissing his ass gives you good luck for a whole year so guess where Devin kissed.  

 Then you have to dance around and stomp on all the peanut shells.

I knew they did this and didn't want to participate so I celebrated my birthday a couple of days later at Famous Dave's.  There, they sing Happy Birthday and give you a free ice cream sundae. The picture in my profile shows the size of the sundae.

An Ending and a Beginning

I haven't posted in over a month and at the moment I have no desire to go back and do the necessary catch-up posts.  As today is the last day of 2019, I'm going to say that what's done is done and over with (the ending).

I'd like to thank all those who have commented on and/or read my blog this past year of ups and downs.  I have made new friends and learned a lot from you.  I've enjoyed reading your blogs too, even though I may not have commented on all of them.

Tomorrow is New Years Day, the first day of 2020  (the beginning) which I hope turns out to be a much better year for stitching, blogging and life in general. 

Of course, I couldn't leave you without a couple of pictures that have made me smile.

My son-in-law works at Home Goods and part of his job is to deliver items to a customer's car. I hope this customer had a really big car!  (Devin is on the left.) 

 We stayed at Great Wolf Lodge a couple of weeks ago and had breakfast in the Loose Moose Cafe.

Happy BIrthday, Devin!

Yesterday was Devin's 40th birthday.  He requested a white on white cake with gobs of frosting.  Janice didn't have time to cater to his wishes so she ordered it from a bakery.  Here's what he got:

Since our birthdays are so close together (mine's on the 6th), we usually celebrate together.  Unfortunately, this year Devin chose a place that's not one of my favorites, so we'll celebrate
separately.  Devin's choice was Johnny Reb's, a southern barbecue place that serves things like collard greens, fried okra and other southern specialties along with ribs, chicken, sausage, etc.

On your birthday, they "make" you kiss a pig (either the snout or the butt) for good luck.

You also have to stomp on peanuts spread over the floor while everyone else bangs on their tables.

Other July Activities

When we were at the 3rd of July event, Janice was given a bag made out of a t-shirt.  Since Bobby likes to be close to her while she's working, she decided to try putting him in the bag and found that it worked great.  He was happy being close to her, but let her work too so Kyleigh also decided to try it.

 

 

 Our church has lots of activities for children and teenagers, but has discovered that the fourth and fifth graders are really too old for the children's activities, but not quite old enough for the teen's activities so they've created some activities just for them.  This month they had a pool party at the DCEs' home (yes, there are two of them).

Kyleigh was recovering from a pulled abductor muscle in her inner thigh that made her knee turn in when she walked so she needed to take it easy.

October Catch Up Post #3 - Halloween

Every year our church and school host a Fall Festival at the school where the kids can go trick or treating through the cars and play games.  This year in honor of the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's posting his 95 theses on the church door, the children got to do that too.  Kyleigh went with Chad (her father) so this is the only picture I have of her at the festival.

In this picture, she's a Halloween princess, but the costume is actually that of a witch.

On Halloween, Devin, Janice and Kyleigh all get dressed up and go trick or treating.  Kyleigh was a witch.

She has a Next Generation 18-inch doll that is one of her favorite toys.  At one of the boutiques we went to this year, we found a similar Halloween costume for her.  Here she is with the doll.

Devin and Janice did a couple costume this year.  Devin is dressed as Bob Ross, the painter of "happy trees" and Janice is one of his paintings.  Incidentally, she painted the painting on her shirt herself.

October Catch Up Post #1 - The Wedding

Janice and Devin finally decided to make their relationship legal on the fifth anniversary of their meeting in person for the first time.  They were married at the Old Court House in Santa Ana with just the immediate families present.  It was a casual wedding with the bride and groom dressed in jeans.  However, the maid of honor insisted on wearing a pretty dress!

It was a beautiful ceremony.  The judge wore her robes and talked to Devin and Janice a few minutes ahead of time to get a feel for their personalities.  They have a couple of rooms decorated up for a wedding and there were pews set up for the guests.  (I wish I'd known about this when David and I were married.)

After the ceremony, we all went to Lucille's for a celebratory meal and then Janice and Devin headed off on their honeymoon to the Cliff House between Santa Barbara and Ventura.  Kyleigh went with us to the tractor show in Vista.
