Weekly Update - 6/19/2020

My weekly update is a little late this week, because my internet was out completely.  It had been partially out for almost two weeks and I could access some things, but not others.  Then on Thursday, it went out completely.  After hours on the phone, it finally came back late yesterday.

Peppermint Purple

Week 25 was stitched with DMC 75 and took one hour and 45 minutes.  I had trouble wrapping my head around this one, but it finally started making sense when I decided to work vertically instead of horizontally.

I'm using the new Blogger and haven't figured out how to add a caption yet.  (Any help would be appreciated.)  This is Picachu as of 6/10/2020 after 5 hours 13 minutes of stitching.

And here he is as of 6/19/2020 after 10 hours and 55 minutes of stitching time.  Yes, he got a little more time this week than usual, because I really wanted to finish his body.

This is Week 24 which is stitched in DMC Variations 4180 and took 38 minutes to stitch..  It's done with mostly Syrna Crosses. 

That completes another row and we're almost halfway there.

Weekly Update - 6/3/2020

Since it will take me awhile to finish Picachu and I'm already updating the Peppermint Purple SAL on a weekly basis, I thought I'd combine the two into a weekly update.

Week 23 of the Peppermint Purple SAL was stitched with DMC 121 and took 47 minutes to stitch.

Happy Dance - The Royals AND Peppermint Purple Update

Jasmine and Aladdin are part of The Royals SAL at Q4OC (Quilts for Older Children and Adults).  The chart was provided by Jeneen, the group owner.  This is one of the three projects needed to complete the 2020 Stitcher''s Challenge.  It's also the chart I used for the 30-Minute-A-Day SAL for May.

It's stitched on 14-count white Aida as charted with the called for DMC.  It will eventually be sent to Q4OC to be added to a quilt.

Next Up: Picachu 

For Week 22 of the Peppermint Purple Year Long SAL, I used DMC Variations 4047 again.  It's a double square, but it was very intuitive so I didn't have to keep looking at the chart .

It took 1 hour and 27 minutes to complete.

Peppermint Purple Update - Week 21

Week 21 is another single block, but I had trouble visualizing it so it wasn't as quick as some of the others.  I stitched for 46 minutes and used DMC Variations #4190.

 

Peppermint Purple Update - Week 20

This week I'm starting over with the colors used in the top section and in the same order.  This time I stitched for 41 minutes using DMC Variations #4022.  Looking at the skein last night, I realized that the portion I used for both blocks has very little variation although the skein itself does. 

Peppermint Purple Update - Week 19

The block was a little different this time as we were to choose a saying to go in the block.  Several samples were provided and I chose one of them, but I did change the blackwork on the sides to a different, but still provided design.  I'm thinking of doing something similar on Block 34 which is the other long block.  It took me 1 hour and 44 minutes to stitch this block which included some frogging.  It's simply stitched in DMC 310.  Next week, I'll start repeating the previous colors in the same order.

Peppermint Purple Update - Week 18

This week's block is again a double block, but it was fairly easy and went fairly quickly, taking only 1 hour 17 minutes.  It's stitched with DMC #53.  We're four months into this now and I'm still caught up!

Peppermint Purple Update - Week 17

Week 17 was another small one that stitched up fairly quickly taking only 40 minutes.  Since I didn't want to get behind again, I used a six inch hoop which worked out okay.  Can you believe that I actually forgot to download the chart on Wednesday and didn't remember until yesterday?

This time I  used DMC Variations 4240 and now realize that it's awfully close to the 4245 I used in a block above it.  Only one more color to choose--any suggestions?

 

Peppermint Purple Update - Weeks 15 and 16

Because I'm using my Q-Snaps on my floor stand to stitch this project, I waited to stitch Week 15 until the Q-Snaps and floor stand were available.  That happened last night.

Week 15 was stitched with DMC Variations #4507.  This is more varied than the other colors I've used, but it's one of my favorite colors so I definitely wanted to use it somewhere for this SAL.  Because this was a double size block, it took 1 hour and 46 minutes to stitch.

Week 16 is stitched with DMC 996 and only took 43 minutes to stitch.

Peppermint Purple Update - Week 14

Week 14 of the Peppermint Purple Year Long SAL was stitched with DMC 890 and took 43 minutes.

Deer Scene is now back on the Q-snaps and floor stand.

This Irish Fairy is from an old issue of Cross Stitch Crazy and was designed by Lucie Heaton for her Challenge Lucie column.  

It's stitched on white 14-count Aida as charted with the called for floss except that I substituted 744 for the 726 called for again, because I still can't find my 726.  (My daughter brought me a skein along with our groceries last night.)

This is another square for Kyleigh's quilt.  I chose this one because she's part Irish on her father's side and her name is spelled the Gaelic way.

I also finished this week's block for the Peppermint Purple SAL.  Believe it or not, this is the 13th week of 2020 so this is the 13th block.  This time I used DMC Variations #4245 and it only took 40 minutes to stitch.

I also want to thank Jo (Serendipitous Stitching) who pointed out that I'd missed several stitches in block 12 and then sent me a picture with the errors circled so that they were easy to find and fix.  Here's the corrected block:

Peppermint Purple Update - Week 12

So far I've done a good job of keeping up with this SAL so here's week 12.  This was a double sized block that took me one hour and 50 minutes to stitch.  It's stitched with DMC 602.

After the next row, there's a block that goes across the entire project and I've decided to stitch it in either black or dark gray and then repeat the colors in this section.   That will happen twice.  I've also decided not to do a border.

Peppermint Purple Update - Weeks 10 and 11

I didn't get a chance to work on my Peppermint Purple SAL last week, because Deer Scene was on my floor stand, so I did both Weeks 10 and 11 this week.  These both looked hard when I first saw them, but thanks to the person who suggested doing one row at a time, they were fairly easy.

Week 10 is done in DMC 90 and took 53 minutes.  Week 11 was done in DMC Variations 4090 and also took 53 minutes.

Peppermint Purple SAL - Weeks 8 and 9

For some reason, I skipped posting week 8 of the SAL so here it is.  This time I used the darker parts of DMC #61. This was one of the easier blocks and only took 46 minutes to stitch.

This is week 9 of the SAL.  It's stitched with DMC 721 and is the first non-variation/non-variegated floss I've used. Besides being a double block, it was the hardest one I've done yet and it took 2 hours and 11 minutes to stitch.  I didn't notice the two missed stitches on the left side until after I'd taken the picture, so I'll fix them this week.

End of Rotation - Let's Learn from Our Cat & Peppermint Purple SAL - Week 7

I know I said that I was planning to finish Let's Learn from Our Cat in this rotation, but I had to change my plans.  About 3/4 of the way through, I realized that I hadn't centered it correctly.  In fact, I was way off!  By making several unintentional mistakes and some fudging on purpose, I managed to complete the project within the fabric I had (I removed some fabric from the bottom and added it to the top so I could continue to use my Q-snaps.)  However, I discovered that somehow I managed to lose several rows inside the cat at the top--I'm still not sure how that happened.

Right now I'm trying to decide if I should consider it done at this point or re-chart the words inside the cat to be closer together.  I'm pretty sure the recipient will be happy with it either way.  What do you think?  Should I leave it as is or add the words?

After removing this from the Q-snaps last night, I also managed to stitch Week 7 of the Peppermint Purple SAL.  This time I used DMC 52.  There were two options for this square, one with diagonal symmetry and one with horizontal and vertical symmetry like the previous squares.  I chose to do the one with diagonal symmetry.

The block for week 6 is stitched with DMC #75.  Since this is a double square, it took 1 hour 23 minutes to stitch over two evenings.
